Law & Order: Criminal Intent – Cancellation Confirmed?!

I think we can kiss CI goodbye now.  It was a false statement sent out Saturday afternoon but one came out this morning so if Futon posts it, it’s gotta be true. Right? I gotta say, this version sounds like it’s the real version. Than the version that was spewed by the fans. I guess USA saw it the way fans saw (see) it. Good news for In Plain Sight fans they get a new season.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – May 17, 2010 – USA Network will end “LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT” after nine seasons and three on the USA Network, it concludes it on Tuesday, July 6 (9-11 p.m. ET). USA Network has renewed its best drama “IN PLAIN SIGHT” for its fourth season.

The announcements were made today by Bonnie Hammer, President, USA Network.

Bonnie Hammer, President, USA Network said, “Dick Wolf and his highly praised spinoffs LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT and LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT made the USA Network what it is today and I am grateful for that. CRIMINAL INTENT will go as well in mutuality with the original LAW & ORDER series.”

Dick Wolf added: “LAW & ORDER: CI has been the most recognized of the LAW & ORDER series, but now it is time to look towards the future. I think LAW & ORDER: LOS ANGELES will appeal to the fans.”

Cast member Jeff Goldblum (Detective Zachary Nichols) had to say: “We all saw this day coming, but for our show more so than the original show. All we can do now is stand tall and keep going.”

The brainchild of creator and Emmy Award winner Wolf, LAW & ORDER has spawned one of the most successful brands in primetime television. It is the 1997 Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Drama Series and the record holder for the most consecutive (11) nominations in that category for a primetime series (tied with “Cheers” and “M*A*S*H”). It premiered on September 13, 1990, and eventually tied “Gunsmoke” as the longest-running drama series in television history.

Dick Wolf’s third installment in the LAW & ORDER franchise follows the Major Case Squad as it investigates high profile crimes. The cases often revolve around homicides, serial killers, VIPs, government officials and figureheads from the business and creative worlds. Unlike other procedural dramas, CRIMINAL INTENT focuses on the criminal psyche.
LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT stars Emmy nominee Jeff Goldblum as Detective Zach Nichols and SAG nominee Saffron Burrows (“Boston Legal,” “Troy”) as Detective Serena Stevens. Burrows plays a highly educated, worldly single parent with a broad range of life experiences to draw upon in solving even the toughest of cases. Teamed with Detective Zach Nichols, they create a partnership of challenging intellect and street-smart savvy. Academy Award nominee Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (“Without a Trace”) steped into the role of Captain Zoe Callas after the action-packed two-part season premiere.

The new “LOLA” (“Law & Order: Los Angeles”) is a procedural crime drama that will follow the theme and storylines similar to the “Law & Order”-brand series on the streets of Los Angeles. The series, from executive producer Dick Wolf and Blake Masters (“Brotherhood”), is a Wolf Films production in association with Universal Media Studios. Casting and pre-production work are continuing.

LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT is executive produced by Dick Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Walon Green who also serves as showrunner. The show comes from Wolf Films and Universal Cable Productions.

LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT is currently in its ninth season airing episodes on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on USA Network.

IN PLAIN SIGHT was also renewed for a fourth season set to begin production by Fall 2010.

Hammer had to say: “IN PLAIN SIGHT is a series like no other and Mary McCormack does shine. I see no reason this show should not see a fourth season.”

Series creator, David Maples said: “IN PLAIN SIGHT is a show worth getting into. You have Mary’s personal life in which she tries to keep intact while trying to do her job, which is hiding witnesses in WITSEC. The critics praise the show as ‘one of the best dramas on cable’.”

IN PLAIN SIGHT stars Mary McCormack as Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshal working in the highly secretive witness protection program (WITSEC). Her job is to relocate Federal Witnesses, some of whom are career criminals, and some of whom are innocents who had the misfortune of witnessing a crime. But they all have one thing in common – someone wants them dead. Mary’s job is to make sure this doesn’t happen, while at the same time dealing with her own dysfunctional family. IN PLAIN SIGHT also stars Frederick Weller, Nichole Hiltz and Paul Ben-Victor, along with returning guest-stars Lesley Ann Warren, Cristian de la Fuente, and Joshua Malina.

Showrunner John McNamara (“The Fugitive,” “Eyes”) joins the show this year as writer/executive producer, further elevating the show’s narrative drive, production value and design.

IN PLAIN SIGHT comes from Universal Cable Productions.

IN PLAIN SIGHT is currently in its third season airing episodes on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on USA Network.
