There has been a lot of speculation about the future of Law & Order: Criminal Intent on USA in the past month or so. I hear the network looked at a number of scenarios, including a full-season pickup, two-season pickup and a partial season pickup until settling on the idea for an eight-episode order for what would be the show’s final season. I hear that a final pickup decision, which largely hinges on making the economics work, will be made in the next couple of days, and the network is looking to bring some of the show’s original players, including Vincent D’Onofrio.
Meanwhile, Jeff Goldblum, who starred on the show last season, has decided not to return. The options on all the actors formally expired on July 31 after being extended by a month on June 30 when they were originally up. For Goldblum, the decision coincided with an agency switch. He has left Gersh and signed with CAA. Goldblum took on the role of Law & Order: CI’s new leading man last fall when, in a major cast overhaul, original stars D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe exited, along with veteran Eric Bogosian. Goldblum now stars in Neil Simon’s The Prisoner of Second Avenue at London’s Old Vic.
Law & Order: CI, which originated on NBC, was the second spinoff from the mothership Law & Order series, which was canceled by NBC in May after 20 seasons. Still going on NBC is Law & Order: SVU, joined by new addition Law & Order: Los Angeles.

I wish Jeff Goldblum the best. If you ask me, I don’t think Vincent D’Onofrio should return either. The show ended on a high note this past ninth season (“Three-In-One”) and if a new episode comes after that it’s going to RUIN that high note!
If you ask me USA Network NEEDS TO STOP PRODUCTION on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and go on with the future of USA Network. We’ve enjoyed at least eight good years of CI and now I think it’s time to MOVE ON! NO HALF SEASONS, NO TWO SEASON PICK-UPs, NO SEASON/EPISODES AFTER THE NINTH SEASON FINALE – CANCEL THE SHOW!
It’s over and done with, let’s move on. No D’Onofrio, Erbe, Goldblum, Burrows, Mastrantonio – NO NOTHING! – If YOU read this PASS IT AROUND! I’VE HAD IT with USA Network screwing with this show and the cast CANCEL IT!

funny no matter who the star of LOCI is i have always watched the show i like many others have been a loyal fan ,so long jeff bring on the next actor to spruce up LOCI cancel no way they cancelled the ‘mothership’ i will never watch LOLA i am a new yorker for life hope it sinks in the next earthquake if LOCI is cancelled its so long USA/NBC hello TNT,A&E ,SPIKE AND ALL OTHER CABLE STATIONS I WOULD WATCH!
I’m sorry (no disrespect intended but this is my opinion) but it’s fans like you that stick around for the show when it’s LOWER than the ground! Fans who see a face on the screen and NOT the quality!
Season 8 for Jeff Goldblum was WAY better than season 9 for him, the writers threw his character down!
NO ONE needs to come to Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Law & Order: Criminal Intent NEEDS to be canceled while it went on on a high-quality note! Nichols and his father finally got along! A good series finale right there! The show need NO MORE production!

If you watch or don’t watch LOLA; I don’t care, NBCU+ others DON’T CARE either! The only one who will: is Mr. Rene Balcer who flew to LA to stay for US to have ONE DECENT Law & Order on television and some of you can’t give the man’s new show a chance!
Shame if you ask me… you’d rather watch a low quality lackluster show like Law & Order: Criminal Intent instead of watching a new show like Law & Order: Los Angeles ran by L&O and L&O:CI’s RENE BALCER!
Shame. Again, I’m sorry no disrespect intended but this is my opinion.
Rich, it is a pity that you are willing to let what was once an extremely compelling mystery drama (look at the first five seasons, when Rene Balcer was showrunner) drag on for a tenth season when the storylines and the characterisation will only sink further into a mire of gloop. Even Jeff Goldblum, it seems, saw the writing on the wall and got out before ‘CI’ died in agony.
I would ask, a little more politely than Josh, for you to give Mr. Balcer and the new show ‘Law & Order: LA’ which he is running the fighting chance he deserves! Of course it is a shame that ‘Law & Order’ was ignominiously cancelled before it could reach a landmark twentieth season. But our dissatisfaction at the way the mothership ended is no reason to boycott what could turn out to be a decent series, rather in the neo-noirish vein of ‘Boomtown,’ I might imagine. The franchise has to evolve. And Mr. Balcer, Blake Masters and Dick Wolf have given us a cast for ‘Law & Order: LA’ which is more than capable and talented enough to provide us with well-acted drama. The writers have some pretty interesting ideas lined up for the first season (one only has to look at the article Josh provided us to get a glimpse of Balcer and Blake’s ethos for the show – well-written, intelligent plots, which could have been straight out of the mothership). The producers are clearly trying very hard to convince the public that this isn’t a ‘Law & Order’ version of ‘CSI: Miami.’ This may indeed prove to be every bit as intriguing and controversial as the mothership was. (Even if the promos aren’t all that creative…)
One question remains: will you reward the producers’ efforts with your support?
