“Dream Casting” if Dick Wolf’s new pilot is “Law & Order: Miami”

After 2011 we’ll (likely) have the gritty sex crimes on the New York streets solved by Detectives Benson and Stabler (portrayed by Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni) and prosecuted by A.D.A. Gillian Hardwicke (portrayed by Melissa Sagemiller). [Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NBC]

Along with the shocking murder crimes on the streets, beaches, and movie star homes solved by Detectives Winters and Jaruszalski (portrayed by Skeet Ulrich and Corey Stoll), which will be prosecuted by a fine team of DDA’s (portayed by Alfred Molina, Terrence Howard, Regina Hall, and Megan Boone). [Law & Order: Los Angeles, NBC]

It’s been said Law & Order: Criminal Intent won’t be running on the USA Network after Spring 2011… what’s coming after Criminal Intent? No one really knows but it’s be rumored to be a Law & Order: Miami! So (if this becomes true) who might be patrolling the streets of Miami?!

I’m already ‘dream casting’ a show that has not even been created yet – oh well! Nice to get a jump start on things:

Keep in mind it is a USA Network show (only 13-18 episodes per season, usually 16), so filming would not be a problem for some of these actors listed below (but I have a plan around that, pending if Dick Wolf was to follow through on the idea):

Lead Team:

  • Nicolas Cage – Senior Detective
  • Alana de la Garza – Junior Detective (not as L&O: A.D.A. Connie Rubirossa)
Supporting Team (or alternating team, since actors do this on “Law & Order: CI” and “Law & Order: LA, when other actors are busy or otherwise):
    • Michael Clarke Duncan or Eriq La Salle – Senior Detective
    • Grey DeLisle or Paula Patton (not as SVU: A.D.A. Mikka Von) – Junior Detective
    Commanding Officer:
    • Lauren Holly
Assistant District Attorney (or Assistant State Attorney, as it is called in Miami, FL):
    • Martin Lawrence, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Derek Luke, or Angela Bassett
    Medical Examiner:
    • Saffron Burrows (not as CI: Detective Serena Stevens), Sofia Milos, Cristián de la Fuente

And those were just some names mentioned as actors who are not on doing a regular role in a television series or freqently in a movie every other week. Personally I’d like to see Nicolas Cage/Alana de la Garza alternate with Eriq La Salle/Paula Patton with Lauren Holly being the C.O., Derek Luke being the A.S.A. (A.D.A.) and the M.E. being Saffron Burrows (as long as she doesn’t act like Serena Stevens on CI or keep that character running, it’s all good).

Notice I did not go all out and pick out all big screen actors! Most have been on a “Law & Order”, “CSI” or an NBC/USA Network show before.

This was just something going through my mind IF Dick Wolf and the network go through with this idea – the concept hasn’t even been though of yet (nor has word said that it would be “Law & Order: Miami”). But more or less after CI is canceled and Goren/Eames (Vincent D’Onofrio/Kathryn Erbe [?]) are gone – there will be a show replacing it, whether it’s “Law & Order: Miami” or not, it’s a shrug until the beginning of next year.

What do you think of the cast?

Also don’t comment about tossing this idea or canceling “Law & Order: LA” for “Law & Order”, your comment will be ignored – so if you are gonna say something along those lines, I suggest you not comment; either go create a blog and rant or go to the USA Network/NBC message boards… this is my opinion and mine alone – I like to hear positive feedback from others, but nothing that is irrelevant to this page (being renewal/cancel “Law & Order: CI”/”Law & Order: LA”, plus the casts of those shows returning/exiting).

I am not talking to EVERYONE, just a selective group of person(s).

James Van Der Beek as a Senior Detective (he read for the part in ‘LOLA’, I believe.)
Would still like to see Wanda de Jesus as the police Lt., although after the ‘LOLA’ shenanigans I doubt that’s possible. I’d like to see Kelly Hu or Kim Delaney take the role.
      Teddy Sears as EADA.
Lauren Holly or Angela Bassett ought to be the District Attorney.

Will think of other names as they come to me.

Dean Winters as the Junior Detective.

Or Senior Detective. I’d like to see de la Garza play a Miami detective!

de la Garza?! No way! She’ll always be the pretty yet tough-as-ass ADA to me. 😉 Besides, the mothership already tried the female detective experiment and we all know how that one worked out. 😛

But haven’t you ever wondered what she would act like playing a cop, and a Miami one a that?!

Could you see Viola Davis as a Commanding Officer or ADA?

I like Viola on SVU as spunky defense attorney Donna Emment myself!

I think Lauren Holly would be a good choice for C.O. (and I know she was C.O. on NCIS, but I’m talking Law & Order [:Miami])!

Okay, how about this – one suggested combination:

‘Law’: Dean Winters, Teddy Sears, Angela Bassett
‘Order’: Bradley Whitford, Viola Davis, Patricia Clarkson

But it depends on how the show focuses: if Wolf does a L&O:CI number it’d just be the one ASA (ADA).

I agree to disagree on some,

If Wolf was do go an ‘alternate’ route:

“Law” Team A: Nicolas Cage/Dean Winters (Sr. Detective) Alana de la Garza/Patricia Clarkson (Jr. Detective)
“Law” Team B: Michael Clarke Duncan/Eriq La Salle (Sr. Detective) Grey DeLisle/Paula Patton [not as SVU: A.D.A. Mikka Von] (Jr. Detective)
“Law” Commanding Officer: Lauren Holly, or even Wanda De Jesus

“Order” Assistant State (District) Attorney: Teddy Sears, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Martin Lawrence, Derek Luke, or Angela Bassett

Or some mixture among their own.

Firstly, I don’t think Patricia Clarkson looks like she could be a junior detective! She’s well into her what, 50s, 60s? xD

I actually like the idea of a ‘LOCI’ style ensemble. My pick would be:

‘Law’ A: Dean Winters, Alana de la Garza (awesome pairing!)
‘Law’ B: Michael Clarke Duncan/Tom Everett Scott, Annabella Sciorra/Paula Patton (?)(another awesome pairing!)
          ‘Law’ C.O.: Angela Bassett

          ‘Order’ A.S.A.: Teddy Sears

What do you make of that?! 😉

I think Patricia Clarkson should be the C.O.

I agree with the A team I’d like to see Winters and de la Garza as a team of Miami detectives.

Team B – I’d probably give Michael Clarke Duncan and Annabella Sciorra a shot (or even M.C.D. and Paula Patton)

I STILL think Angela Bassett should be the A.S.A!

And Christan de la Fuente or even Saffron Burrows as the M.E.

Even though we are jumping the gun because USA Network hasn’t even announced what’s replacing CI yet, nor it being a “Law & Order: Miami” (but one can dream until it’s denied, even though I’m hoping it’s not).

Tom Everett Scott as an alternative to Bradley Whitford in the EADA role.

After a number of suggestions and configurations, I present my all-time ideal cast for “Law & Order: Miami”:

‘Law’ Team A: Dean Winters, Alana de la Garza
‘Law’ Team B: Liev Schreiber, Annabella Sciorra
      ‘Law’ C.O.: Patricia Clarkson

      ‘Order’ A.S.A. A: Teddy Sears
      ‘Order’ A.S.A. B: Angela Bassett

The attorneys can either rotate episodes (Sears being assigned to team A, Bassett being assigned to team B), or they can appear together, Bassett being the senior A.S.A. and Sears being the junior one.

        I agree with Team A.
Team B – Liev Schreiber? (I imagine someone of the African American pursuation in the Team B role)

        C.O. – Lauren Holly/Patricia Clarkson (a tie)

        ‘Order’ works

M.E. Saffron Burrows or Christan de la Fuente.

In terms of African American, I’d say Delroy Lindo, but I still like the idea of Liev Schreiber. I assume you don’t?

A fanfiction series in the making? 😉
